Locals have been visiting and raving about Angus Barn for six decades. An upscale steakhouse meets a southern barn to create a magical experience that can’t be found anywhere else.

Angus Barn is specifically known for a few things: their extravagant Christmas decorations, which cover every inch of the premises, the in-house aged steaks, and their famous chocolate chess pie. When we say famous, we mean over 600 chocolate chess pies baked and eaten at Angus Barn weekly.

Gather Your Ingredients

This recipe calls for an unbaked pie shell, and while we are sure a homemade crust would be fantastic, we’ve found that a frozen pie crust is perfect in this recipe, and we don’t fix what ain’t broken around here.

So, pull that crust out of your freezer and gather up your eggs, butter, sugar, semi-sweet chocolate chips, vanilla, and salt. Yep, ingredients you probably already have on hand!

Note: This recipe is gluten-free when using a gluten-free crust!

Melt Your Chocolate

Melt the chocolate and butter together using a double boiler or in a pan on the stovetop while stirring frequently and watching closely. We don’t have a double-boiler, and it still works great.

Mix The Ingredients

Mix the other ingredients in the bowl of a stand mixer or by hand, and then add in your melted chocolate until combined. Noticing how short these explanations are? We told ya, easy peasy.

Bake

Pour batter into the pie crust and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 30-40 minutes. Cook time will depend on your oven– ours was closer to the 35-40 minute mark. When you remove it from the oven, you want to see and feel that the top has been set to create a chocolate crust.

Let Cool And Enjoy!

Let the pie cool before cutting into it, and then serve topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Then, help yourself to another slice when that one is gone.
