All 15 NBA Players In Hulu's Clipped Show Explained (2024)

The new FX/Hulu sports docudrama Clipped features a wide range of current and former NBA players. While Clipped is technically a period piece set during the turbulent 2013-2014 NBA season, several of the players depicted in the series are still active in the NBA today. The series takes a deep dive behind the scenes into the notorious scandal involving former Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling and his unusual relationship with a personal assitant/mistress/self-proclaimed "silly rabbit" V. Stiviano. The Hulu original series is based on the true story of Donald Sterling as the ESPN 30 for 30 podcast The Sterling Affairs.

The cast of Clipped is led by Laurence Fishburne as head coach and former NBA player Doc Rivers. Clipped episodes 1 and 2 are available to stream on Hulu, where all six installments of the limited series will become available on July 2, 2024. The miniseries was created by Gina Wench, who has written for other notable Hulu original series such as Castle Rock, based on the location found in many Stephen King novels, and the Emmy-winning Feud co-created by Ryan Murphy. Much of the first two episodes of Clipped takes place during the Clippers series against the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the 2014 NBA Playoffs.

Chris Paul has played 19 seasons in the NBA and is currently a member of the Golden State Warriors. He was named the 2005-06 NBA Rookie of the Year as a member of the New Orleans Hornets, where he played until he was traded to the Clippers in 2011. As depicted in Clipped, Paul was arguably the best player on the team and naturally took a leadership role, which was reinforced by the arrival of Doc Rivers as the team's head coach. Rivers would lead Paul and the Clippers in six out of his seven seasons with the team. Between 2017 and 2023, Paul was traded to the Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Phoenix Suns before landing in San Francisco.

14 Blake Griffin

Blake Griffin was drafted as the first overall pick of the 2009 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers and emerged as the face of their franchise. He, like Paul, was also named Rookie of the Year, which actually ended up being in his second season due to a season-ending knee injury he endured in his first season. Griffin played for the Clippers until 2018 before getting traded to the Detroit Pistons, where he played until 2021. Griffin's final two seasons in the NBA were as part of the Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics before he retired at the end of the 2023 season. Griffin is also an NBA Slam Dunk champion and has interests in acting and stand-up comedy.

JJ Redick was one of the most prolific college basketball players to have ever played at Duke University under the legendary Coach Krzyzewski. Known for his sharpshooting skills behind the arc, Redick played a total of 15 NBA seasons after being drafted as the eleventh overall pick in 2006 by the Orlando Magic. Redick played for the Magic until 2013 when he was traded to the Milwaukee, where his on court performance suffered. As depicted in Winning Time, newly instated head coach Doc Rivers brought Redick to Los Angeles, where he became an integral part of the team. Redick will announce the 2024 NBA Finals alongside Doris Burke and Mike Breen and is currently being eyed for a head coaching position for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Jordan was named an NBA All-Star in 2017 before getting traded the following season to the Dallas Mavericks. Since 2019, Jordan has played for five different NBA organizations and was a member of the Denver Nuggets, who won the 2023 NBA Championship.

11 Glen 'Big Baby' Davis

Glen Davis, also known by his nickname "Big Baby", played for Doc Rivers on the 2008 Boston Celtics team that won the organization's first NBA Title since 1986. Davis was drafted by the Seattle SuperSonics in the second round of the 2007 NBA Draft but was traded to Boston along with Ray Allen soon after. Davis played for Boston until 2011, when he was traded to the Orlando Magic, where he played until the middle of the 2013-2014 NBA season. The Magic bought out Davis' contract, making him a free agent, which is how he ended up back playing for Rivers for the Clippers in what would become his final NBA season.

10 Matt Barnes

Matt Barnes was drafted in the second round of the 2002 NBA Draft and first signed with the Clippers in the middle of the 2003-2004 NBA season. Barnes moved around quite a bit during his fourteen NBA seasons, playing for nine separate organizations, including the Kings, Knicks, 76ers, Warriors, Suns, and Magic. Barnes played for the Lakers from 2010 to 2012 before joining the Clippers at the start of the 2012-2013 season. He played for the Clippers until 2015 and retired as an NBA Champion as a member of the Golden State Warriors. He currently works as an NBA analyst for ESPN.

Steph Curry is arguably the best three point shooter in the history of the NBA. He's depicted in Clipped during the first round of the 2014 NBA Playoffs, which the Clippers would ultimately win. However, the following year would give birth to one of the best franchise playoff runs in NBA history, as Curry led the Warriors to NBA Championships in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022. Curry set the NBA record for 3-pointers made in 2021, breaking Ray Allen's previous record of 2,973. Curry has currently made a total of 3,747 three pointers, a record that is still counting, and will likley not be broken for a very long time, if ever. Curry was drafted by the Warriors in 2009 and has never left.

8 Draymond Green

Like Curry, Draymond Green was drafted by the Golden State Warriors and has remained a loyal part of the organization ever since. He was an integral member of all four of the Warriors recent NBA Championships and was named an NBA All-Star four times. As depicted in Clipped, Green is known for being an intimidating and outspoken force on the basketball court. In 2022, he even got into an altercation with his own teammate at that time, Jordan Poole. Green's intense energy has become his calling card for the Warriors, which is what makes fans love him. Green also guest hosts on TNT's award-winning show Inside the NBA.

7 Klay Thompson

The other half of the "Splash Bros" along with Curry, Klay Thompson is an iconic figure on the Warriors who is also celebrated for his sharpshooting skills behind the arc. Like Curry and Green, Thompson has spent his entire career as a member of the Warriors and has played a major role in all four of their recent championships. Elgin Baylor was a prolific former NBA player and Hall of Famer. He was an 11-time NBA All-Star and the number one overall pick in the 1958 NBA Draft. Baylor played his entire NBA career with the Lakers, who moved from Minneapolis to Los Angeles in 1960. Baylor was named the Rookie of the Year in 1959 and became the first NBA player to ever score more than 70 points in a single game. Baylor was not only a monumental figure on the court but off the court as well. As depicted in Clipped, Baylor began his career as a Clippers executive in 1986 and worked for Donald Sterling's organization for 22 years, leaving in 2008. Baylor died in 2021 at the age of 86.

2 Tyronn Lue

Tyronn Lue is depicted in Clipped as an assistant coach of the Los Angeles Clippers under head coach Doc Rivers. Lue played 11 NBA seasons, two of which he was a member of the Championship winning Los Angeles Lakers (2000, 2001) alongside Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal. Lue went back to the NBA Finals in 2009 in his final season with the Orlando Magic, but ultimately lost to the Lakers. Lue then transitioned to coaching, first becoming an assistant under Doc Rivers in Boston and following him to Los Angeles in 2013.

Lue was at one point the highest paid assistant coach in the NBA when he joined the Cavaliers in 2014, who he eventually led to three NBA Finals and one Championship in 2016 as their head coach. Lue was fired in 2018 after an 0-6 start to the season, rejoined Rivers as an assistant on the Clippers, and replaced him in 2020 after he left. He recently signed a 5 year contract to return as the Clippers head coach.

Apart from being an outstanding head coach, Doc Rivers played 13 seasons in the NBA. He was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in the second round of the 1983 NBA Draft and played on the team until 1991. As a player, Rivers would not win any NBA Championships but was named an NBA All-Star in 1988. Rivers retired from the NBA in 1996 and began his first coaching job in 1999 with the Orlando Magic. He then was brought in to Boston in 2004, where he would win his first and only NBA Title in 2008. As depicted in Clipped, Rivers stayed with the Celtics until 2013 when he became the head coach of the Clippers just in time for the Sterling scandal to make national headlines.
